that’s a wrap

Today was our last day of school, our kindergarteners graduated, everyone ate some cookies, there were many hugs and some tears. Tomorrow will be full of packing, cleaning, and planning for next year.

There is a final tradition at our school, and it is one that you won’t find in your albums, but is important to us nonetheless – full body portraits.

It’s pretty simple. We trace their body onto butcher paper, clip it to the fence and we have a communal table filled with tempera cups with multiple brushes per color. Then they paint, and they paint, and they paint some more.

The paintings dry in the sun, and are ready to go home that day.

What could be better than a self portrait of how you saw yourself on the last (or almost last) day of school. I know Imogen’s is hanging in her room, purple, red swirly face and all!
